Site Safety Inspections are the most effective means of identifying hazardous conditions at the work site.
The site safety inspection focuses on the implementation of risk controls used by contractors following the work health and safety (WHS) management plan assessment. The intent of the site safety inspection is to benchmark the safety practices observed on site against the criteria contained in the checklist. Site Safety Inspections also systematically identify hazards, evaluate work practices, and verify that a workplace meets legal and company health and safety standards. Site Safety Inspections are necessary to:
- Identify aspects of the working environment and work tasks that could contribute to injury/damage.
- Review workplace standards in accordance with legal and company requirements
- Provide a systematic means, for those who are at risk of injury, to help control the working conditions.
- Hazard Identification: Proactively spot unsafe conditions, faulty equipment, hazardous materials, or risky behaviours before they result in injury, illness, or property damage.
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensure the site aligns with governing legislation—such as the WHS Act 2011 & WHS Regulations 2011 or other national Australian standards.
- Control Evaluation: Check that existing risk controls, personal protective equipment (PPE), and machinery guards are functioning properly and used correctly by workers.
- Risk Prevention & Action: Fix immediate dangers on the spot and create structured action plans or remedies for non-compliant areas.
- Safety Culture: Demonstrate to workers, contractors, and visitors that management values a safe environment, which helps lower turnover and build operational continuity
